The 8th of March marked International Women’s Day, a special day on which time is dedicated to celebrating women.

This year, I chose to celebrate this event by attending an event hosted by Changepreneurs. Changepreneurs is an organisation

founded by Abiola (Abi) Akinbiyi. A leader with

an award-winning healthcare professional, entrepreneur, and community leader who migrated

This organisation aims to mentor, help, and empower young African Australian female youth and women to reach their full potential.

    • AMFC 2023

Posted at 7:38 pm by Sibonginkosi Moyo, on Dec 30, 2023

This year was the 10th anniversary of the African Music and Cultural Festival in Melbourne(AMFC), Australia. From 17 Nov to 19 Nov, African Australians gathered in Fed Square for a good time. There was live music, African drumming, raffles and African food stalls.

This festival is the most prominent African festival in the country, and it is significant as it helps to promote African culture. The AMCF chair, Fred Alale, was on the ground, welcoming guests and making sure things were running smoothly.

      Looking forward to future festivals

This year, there were two events in Melbourne and Sydney—vital Keynote Speeches and Workshops from African Australians who are trailblazers in their respective industries and entrepreneurial endeavours. A big shoutout to Convenor Clyde Salumu Sharady for his tireless work and dedication: I look forward to more Summits soon.

    • Nelson Mandela Day 2023

Posted at 1:04 am by Sibonginkosi Moyo, on Jul 23, 2023

July 18th is a special day we celebrate an extraordinary man Nelson Mandela(Madiba). It’s a day to embrace fighting for equality, reconciliation and embracing unity.

December last year, I had the privilege of visiting Robben Island with my parents, who were my first teachers of African history. Also, the person who conducted our tour had also been a prisoner on the island, and he was vulnerable enough to share his story.

I left there inspired to do my part to change the world positively.

    • Rotary International Convention 2023

Posted at 12:08 am by Sibonginkosi Moyo, on Jul 9, 2023

In May, the city of Melbourne hosted the 2023 Rotary International Convention. As a Melbourne resident and Rotarian I was glad this grand event was held in my city.

The House of Friendship was where all Rotarians connected  and enjoy hundreds of Rotary project booths, vendors, foods, and entertainment options.

Also, the presentations and breakout sessions were inspirational. I’m excited for the next conference as Rotary continues to make the world a better place.

    • Happy Africa Day – 2023

Posted at 10:09 pm by Sibonginkosi Moyo, on May 31, 2023

Today we take time to celebrate the beautiful continent of Africa.

Africans in Africa and overseas celebrate their African heritage and unity by gathering and hosting events. For example, I attended the Africa Day Gala Dinner and Advancing African Australia Agenda (AAAA) in Melbourne.

As we reflect on the last 60 years, it’s more important than ever to reflect on where we have come from and strive to make Africa a continent that our descendants will be proud to come from.
