I’m happy to stat this year by celebrating the Ghanaian vice president madam Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang who was sworn into office on the 7th of January 2025.Ghana has proved they are committed to women empowerment by having the first woman in role.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang was born in Cape Coast on November 22, 1951. She is highly educated, earned her Bachelor’s and Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast. She later pursued her master’s and Ph.D. in English Literature at York University in Canada.
Before becoming a national leader, she served as the first female Vice-Chancellor of Ghana’s University of Cape Coast as well as the Chancellor of the Women’s University in Africa. Also, in 2013 she was appointed Minister for Education under John Mahama’s presidency. During her tenure, significant strides were made in education, including the construction of modern facilities, and the provision of free textbooks and school uniforms and phasing out of makeshift “schools under trees.”
We salute you Madam Vice President!
